In New York on May 26 1945 Edward N Scheiberling national commander of the American Legion flew to Europe by plane to gauge G I reaction to the Legion plan for strong peace preparedness and veterans readjustment. He will accompany Manuel Palco of Waukegan Ill to organize graves registration and pledge to mark and register over 150000 WW I and II dead in Africa Europe. The trip is under War Department auspices for a Legion push to Congress.
Houston authorities investigate the fatal shooting of Joe McLaren 35 ex convict by Humble Constable O T Busch at a cafe on Humble road McLaren who had a March pardon and was serving eight years for auto theft threatened the officer before reaching toward his hip pocket The shot prompted a Justice of the Peace ruling of justifiable homicide authorities said the constable fired four times with a .44 caliber pistol
Sgt Frank H Hudson an engineer gunner aboard a B 17 was captured December 1 after his plane was shot down. He told his wife he would be home soon and relayed the message to his parents. He had been overseas since August. His brother Pfc Thomas Hudson is hospitalized in France for shrapnel wounds and has the Purple Heart.
Voters in New Deal Rural High School district No 3 will gather at New Deal High School to decide if their territory should form an independent school district and elect seven trustees from nine proposed candidates. The petition, signed by 112, asks for the election, with Judge Walter Davies appointing Charlie Fortenberry as election officer and sheriff notices to be posted 10 days prior.
Texas Masons announce a plan to build a 1 million dollar Grand Lodge Temple in Waco to honor brothers who served in World Wars and to house a masonic library and Grand Lodge offices. Grand Master Bascom Giles notes one in ten Texas Masons serves in the armed forces and a plan assists 13,500 returning veterans.
In Fort Worth on May 26, Convair announced a giant six motor luxury airliner, the Model 37, designed to outpace all prior transport. R. R. Hoover described a 230 foot wingspan, 160 ton loaded weight with 204 passengers and 50 000 pounds of cargo, and a New York to London range against a 0 mile headwind.
