A reminiscence on dust storms and dry spells recalls 1934 as the dust bowl year while a magnolia tree near 2207 Sixteenth is praised for its scent. Local residents share berry plants and pet notices, including a missing English bulldog Patsy and five kittens offered for adoption.
Sunshine Needle club met at Mrs. H. L. Handley’s home 2608 Thirtieth Tuesday afternoon. They planned the June 12 meeting with Mrs. Lester Harrison at 2 30 p m. Attending were Mesdames Harrison Floy Lawson H G Boyd Charles Lee L O Tucker J C Thomas Aubra Cramer and guest Mrs. Joyce Bragg.
Tuesday events in Lubbock featured the Clement Sorosis Study Club luncheon at Mrs. Lora Tucker home with talk by Mrs. A W Young on Federated Club Work. Installation tea at Mrs. C D Doggett's home installed officers for Lubbock Woman's Forum and Athenaeum members heard remarks as new officers and chairmen were announced.
Merle Scoggin, retiring president of Alpha Gamma chapter Esilon Sigma Alpha sorority, installed officers for 1945 46 at Hilton hotel. New officers are Betty Gordon president Lalla O'Spain vice president Sue Cocke secretary and Lois Alexander treasurer. Backyard supper and wiener roast planned for next Tuesday at 7 p m at the home of three members Lorilla Stephens Beat rice Spivey and Christine Keeney.
Ex residents from 15 towns gathered for the Brown County reunion held on the third Sunday in May at Mackenzie State Park. One hundred one attendees elected officers J E Richardson president Charles Applegate vice president and Mrs Fred Higbee secretary treasurer. Speakers Rev H A Nichols and Bob Reeves preceded the business session. Attendees represented Plainview Hale Center Tahoka Amarillo Spur Lamesa Ralls Slaton Andrews Hart Lorenzo Ropesville Lockney Lubbock and Blackwell.
O W club meets 2 p m with Mrs Curtis Boyd at 2702 Twenty second. Wednesday Needle club 30 p m with Mrs Rosella Rushing at 2314 Thirteenth. Lubbock Women s club 6 30 p m at Hilton Hotel with dinner. Lucky 13 Needle club 3 p m with Mrs G V Fulton at 2703 Twenty first. Miscellaneous club 2 30 p m with Mrs R J Griner at 9203 Thirtieth. Allegro Music club 1 p m at Hotel Lubbock luncheon and installation.
Mrs J J Mayfield hosted the 1934 Needlers Club at 304 Ave U with Mesdames A A Majestic Lloyd Nelson G W Jones Lorena Wilson and George G Hall present. The group plans to meet again June 12 at 3 pm with Mrs Nelson on West Thirty fourth.
Mrs A G Barsh presented Mrs Prideaux with crystal and silver as the club celebrated the year. The U shaped table wore roses and larkspur. Committee chairmen reported yearly activities while a list of attending ladies and gentlemen included Mesdames Allensworth Brewer Cole Hand Hendrick Jameson Johnson Kilpatrick Mast McKee Murfee Overton Patton Riddel Sparks Stevens Trout York Byrd and others.
A Wednesday luncheon at the Chicken House honored Miss Pearl Jackson bride elect. Dupre teachers hosted with a pottery gift for Miss Jackson as pink gladioli brightened the tables. A tea-shower for the bride to be was held at 2212 Seventeenth with a large house party and floral decorations.
Needle Club Bee met at Mrs C C Chambers home 1214 Sixteenth with Mses Tommie Aaron Bob Bowron W D Massey A Parrack R H Elder Glenn Smith George Eubank Earl Burnett Odell Hughett Otis Felty and guest Charline Chambers in attendance. Mrs Edler to host June 12 at 3 30 p m in her 1909 Seventeenth home.
Announcement of the marriage of Miss Iva R. Beene former Lubbock resident to George E. Parkas at Amarillo Airfield chapel officiated by Chaplain John Holland.
