Space Hero Returns to Cape Amid Hawaii Welcome

Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, famed for 22 orbits, touched down in Hawaii to a tearful wife and cheering crowd. Cooper expressed elation at returning stateside and noted the welcome’s significance.

Florida labor bus tragedy leaves many dead in canal

A converted school bus carrying farm laborers sank in a 65 foot wide canal near Elle Glade Florida. At least 27 people died including 13 adults and 10 children. Fifteen escaped through windows as divers later recovered bodies. The bus was a 1946 model with 33 seats and was painted silver with a yellow top.

Reds Given A Warning

Western diplomats planned a new push for disarmament and warned the Soviet Union time is running out to halt nuclear spread. Connally names 25 for Texas higher education study group

Gov. John Connally disclosed 25 names for the Committee on Education Beyond the High School. Dr. D. M. Wiggins, former Texas Tech president, is among 19 lay members and six educators. H. B.
