U S corporate profits rose near record levels in the first quarter with before tax profits more than doubling Q4 gains and inflation at 6.6 percent. Manufacturing, especially auto and lumber, led boosts while after tax earnings climbed to 42.3 billion and tax liabilities rose to around 50.8 billion.
Four year old Danny Campos son of Mrs Olga M Campos of 2701 Duke Street was in serious condition at Methodist Hospital after being struck by a brown convertible in the 40 percent Clock of North Boston Avenues around 2 p.m. Thursday. Police seek four Mexican American men in the car seen fleeing north on Boston after the impact. Witnesses say the youth started to cross the street then was hit with the left front of the auto causing head injuries.
A. E. Todd, longtime Shallowater High custodian, has the Mustang Field name dedicated to him after 33 years of service. The field sign was unveiled as a gift from senior students during a school board meeting. Todd, who previously served as a school board member, recalls starting in 1930 and values the students’ tribute to his career with the district.
