Fort Worth reports the wheat harvest starting in Texas with drought affecting West Texas and the Panhandle. First 1964 grain shipments reached Uhlmann-Heard elevator in Saginaw at 470 bushels, from Jones County, and Stamford saw its first load from H. L. Bosse weighing 61 pounds per bushel. Premiums rise as harvest moves north, with Texas farmers earning above government loan levels while millers delay subsidy payments. Amarillo and Lubbock receive rain but area wheat remains sparse in the south.
