Houston controversy cites theologians in heart transplant talks

In Houston a priest urges theologians to join legal discussions on heart transplant death timing. The Harris County Medical Society and hospitals began conferences after a death dispute over Clarence Nicks whose heart was transplanted to John Stuckwish. Autopsy timing and homicide charges complicate policy, with Medical Examiner Dr. Jachimczyk warning about death definitions and autopsy effects. Alfred Branum and Robert Patterson, both 19, face murder charges. Father Moraczewski says no universal death standard exists and that transplant teams should not certify death.
