Oil industry notes cover numerous wells and tests in Martin, Garza, Tom Green, Reeves, Winkler, and other Texas counties. Activities include stimulations with acid and fracs, wildcat drilling, and planned tests in Spraberry and Glorieta fields along with new exploration probes and drilling sites in multiple surveyed sections.
Occidental Petroleum announces that the Piper field third well No. 45-17 in the British North Sea tested for high quality low-sulphur crude at 16 415 barrels per day. The well lies off Scotland east of Wick and 1 mile southwest of the discovery well. First two Piper wells produced 8 48 and 32 129 barrels per day. An initial production platform for up to 36 wells is planned for summer 1971 with output starting early 1975. Participating interests: Occidental 36.5 percent Getty 25.5 percent Allied Chemical 20 percent Thomson 20 percent.
