Man pleads guilty in scalding death case for life term
Clifford Darrell Carroll 26 of Fort Worth pleaded guilty to murder with malice in the 1964 scalding death of 34 month old Paula Jean Bowman. Judge J E Winters imposed life on waiver of jury trial after prosecutors withdrew the death penalty motion. Bowman, the child’s mother, was serving a 50 year term for her role. The Supreme Court previously reversed Carroll’s death sentence, citing publicity surrounding the case.
