A single vehicle wreck on U.S. 70 west of Crowell killed two people and injured two Paducah high school girls. Herschell Nowell and Brenda Rose died on arrival at Ford Memorial Hospital. A damaging afternoon storm dropped heavy rain across Lubbock with two inches at Andrews and Acuff and three at Morton. Flooding and high water were reported near Loop 289 and Quaker, with 214 feet at the intersection. Several outages occurred, including a half hour on 29th Street and outages in apartment buildings from moisture shorts. A wrecker freed a motorist from waist deep water and gusts toppled a traffic signal at 4th and Canton. More thunderstorms were possible with a tornado watch in effect for eastern South Plains counties.
