Lubbock acquires option on water rights in Sand Hills tract
The CITY Commission acquired an option on water rights covering more than 50 000 acres in 80 square miles of Bailey County land known as the Sand Hills. If tests show adequate quality and quantity, the city may pay up to 10 per acre for perpetual rights, with a $1 option fee. The deal involves parcels donated by A L Were and WVN Ranch holdings by J L Birdwell.

Area Youth Dies In Truck Mishap
A 15 year old Lubbock youth died when the truck he rode on toppled the second vehicle being towed. Harold Christy fell beneath the second truck driven by his brother Ives and neck injuries caused death within minutes. The accident occurred eight miles west and two miles north of Lubbock near Farm Road 1073. This marked the 24th traffic death on the South Plains for the year.
