Seven prisoners take jailer, break from Ward County jail

Moisture scarce brief area storm brings high winds west of Lubbock
A dark band of shallow thunderclouds with high winds moved east across the South Plains late Sunday, delivering sprinkles in several towns. Winds peaked at 67 mph at Reese Air Force Base, 44 mph at Lubbock Regional Airport with a trace of moisture. A hangar at the airport sustained damage. Sprinkles were reported in Morton, Whiteface, Denver City, Levelland, Sudan, Littlefield, Abernathy, Brownfield and Lorenzo. The system dissipated about an hour after crossing Lubbock.

Four Portales youths from the Seventh Day Adventist Church group died in a church camp trailer near Mora New Mexico early Sunday from apparent asphyxiation. The victims were Glenn Leonard Burton 10 David Wayne Owen 10 Steven Edward Owen Jr 12 and David Wayne Lockard 9. The boys were sleeping in quarters at the camp when other group members found them. No formal ruling had been made by Sunday night.
