About 80 Balls High School band students witnessed a jailbreak at the Canon City prison during the Apple Blossom Band Festival. Two death row inmates Ernest Alsip and Michael Bell were killed by guards as they attempted to descend the east wall onto a garage near the warden’s home. Witnesses described hearing shots and seeing the men fall.
