Thailand backs Nixon doctrine as U S withdrawal nears
Thai Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn told UPI he agrees with the Nixon doctrine and that U S aid remains essential for regional freedom. He noted reductions in aid and said Thai forces in Vietnam will be withdrawn to defend Thailand at home. He praised the South Vietnamese incursion into Laos as a success and cited enemy supply disruptions as achieving strategy. The Thai government counts 12,000 troops in Vietnam and notes Vietnam’s 1.1 million armed forces as capable of self defense.
