In a near blizzard, Lub bock faces widespread closures as workers stay home and only skeleton staffs operate essential services. Hospitals, gas stations, food stores and newsrooms manage with reduced personnel while some stores postpone sales and others limit hours.
Snow piled in deep drifts across downtown Lubbock blocks streets near the Pioneer Hotel as a large tractor sits immobile. H S Bridges of Littlefield, TNM&O bus driver, surveys the unusual obstruction after a heavy snowfall.
