Fatal crash near Wilson Community claims Lubbock man
R L Newell 49 years old of Lubbock was killed when his truck skidded and overturned on FM Road 211 near Wilson Community in Lynn County. The South Plains Neon Signs worker was ejected and crushed as the vehicle rolled 290 feet and to its side. He had been a Westerner football member and served in the Navy. Other area accidents injured several people in and around Levelland and Lubbock.

A winter storm moved from the South into Texas bringing rain snow and dust while floods and tornadoes ravaged Alabama Mississippi and Tennessee. At least 12 people drowned including four from one family as evacuations rose across Kentucky Virginia and West Virginia. Campers were rescued from Nickajack Cave after tents were blown down by a tornado near Jasper Tennessee. Authorities reported marooned trains and widespread highway blockages as disaster relief began.

Bridge collapse kills Mrs Glenn Woodfin in Alabama
Mrs Glenn Woodfin was killed when a flooded Limestone Creek bridge collapsed in northwest Madigan County Alabama early Tuesday. Her husband and another driver were seriously injured as their cars plunged into the stream in a two car crash captured by AP Wirephoto.
