The High Plains gains 91 684 cotton acres under the 1963 acreage release reallocation. Plains Cotton Growers and ASCS figures show the region now has 2 202 593 permitted acres, an 8 percent cut from last year, with final distribution to counties based on need and cropland dedication.
A. A. Meredith of Borger received the Power Contract Award from the U S Department of Interior as CRMWA directors name the reservoir near Borger Meredith Lake after his years of service. The authority approved a power contract with Southwestern Public Service Co. for the lake’s first pumping in about 1968 and proposed a national monument site and a 2 5 million recreation plan to develop fish wildlife and ice creation facilities.
Roger D. Brooks of Miami and Anthony J. Milasi of Binghamton, raised apart by mistaken identity, were reunited in Binghamton after a stranger in Miami identified Brooks as Milasi. Both men, 6 feet 3 inches, 210 and 208 pounds, share brown hair blue eyes and identical shoe size 13.
Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara warned a House panel that a Hungary like Soviet move to crush a Cuban uprising with more troops would amount to an invasion. He noted Cuba may house several hundred small missiles but defended them as defensive. He spoke from secret January testimony released by the House Armed Services Committee.
Nineteen month old Phyllis Ann Banks, daughter of Mrs. Virginia Ann Banks of Lubbock, died when a pickup overturned four miles south of Canyon on U.S. Highway 87. Driver Walter Max Davis, 31, and the mother were injured but in good condition at Neblett Hospital. The child’s body was moved to Lagrone and then Rix Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Surviving grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Harold McNiece of Lubbock and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Banks of Childress.
An exhibit on Texas Tech molecular research was unveiled at the Pentagon. Tech professors Henry Shine and Wesley Wendlandt designed four panels funded by an Air Force grant of 200000 dollars. Panels depict thermal breakdown techniques and ion radical studies by electron spin resonance spectroscopy.
Dr Amos Horney heads the chemical sciences division of the Office of Scientific Research and met with Texas Tech researchers in Lubbock to discuss a three year study on how heat affects chemicals related to U S space exploration.

A late winter storm spawned tornadoes across Mississippi Alabama Tennessee and Texas with at least three dead and many injured. Alabama reported two fatalities and about 100 buildings damaged while a Cullman home collapse killed two women. Mississippi saw a fatality near Reform and injuries to a pulpw ood worker’s family. Several towns in Tennessee and other areas faced missing persons and widespread travel disruption.

In Kaufman Texas damage was estimated at 300000 dollars with no fatalities reported.
