Finch Jury Deadlocks Second Trial To Be Sought

Los Angeles jurors deadlocked after eight days in the Finch murder case. Dr. R Bernard Finch and Carole Tregoff faced charges of murder and conspiracy. A retrial is planned as the judge discharged the panel and court resumes March 17.

Snowbound towns hampered by heavy storm and cold

Heavy snows and high winds stranded more than 2 000 people in the Blue Ridge area of North Carolina and Tennessee. A mountain farmer walked 742 miles through deep snows to reach a National Guard unit in Whitetop Virginia and report the town cut off without food. Cold records spread through the Northeast with low temperatures near 30 below zero in New York and nearby states as rescue efforts slowed by weather.

Bank Holdup Nets $45,000 In New Iberia

A masked man in a stocking hood robbed the New Iberia National Bank Saturday, taking over $45,000 after detaining two employees who arrived for work. He calmly met each worker, threatening to blow their heads off with a shotgun, then fled four miles from town.

Amputee Foils Holdup Trio With Spare Leg Rescue

James F. Collins, 38, an amputee veteran, fought back after bandits robbed him of his car, shotgun, watch, and $200 by using a second artificial leg kept in his smokehouse. He escaped bonds, alerted Sheriff W. J. Price, and two suspects were captured in Dallas following a chase that ended with a crash. one suspect fled.
