Joyful Ex POWs Freed From Red Camp Return Home

One hundred six American prisoners of war freed from North Vietnam arrived at Clark Field Philippines on three CL-41 jets. They appeared healthy, joyful, and hungry after years in captivity, with two Thai mercenaries and spies accompanying them. Cooks fed them lavishly at the base hospital before reporters captured their exuberant homecoming.

VC To Free 34 Americans Today

American planes sped to Hanoi to collect 34 prisoners of war freed by the Viet Cong. An advance party of 20 boarded a C130 Hercules to Gia Lam Airport to clear the way for a C141 StarLifter hospital aircraft. The C141 due in Hanoi around 1 pm to retrieve 30 Americans, two German medical workers and two VOA Filipino staff.

Slayers End 60Hour Embassy Siege in Sudan

In Khartoum eight Palestinian guerrillas surrendered after a 60hour takeover of the Saudi embassy. Three diplomats were killed including U S Ambassador Cleo Noel and U S Charge d Affaires Curtis Moore. Bodies were brought out wrapped in burlap. Autopsies were performed and the attackers were reported dead as well. An official Nixon plane arrived with the diplomats' children and caskets.

Vigil For Sight Of Men Returns From Hanoi

Families gathered around TV sets and phones as the third North Vietnamese prisoner batch arrived at Clark Air Base at 4 10 a m CST. The 106 Americans and two Thai released marked the latest cease fire return and included Navy officers Capt Allen O Brady and Cmdr John D Burns.
