Barricades block lanes on 4th Street near Avenue Q creating a maze for Lubbock drivers. Texas Highway Department says the one lane in each direction will persist through Saturday as cars inch forward in a zigzag crawl.

In McCamey the bank president's wife was held at gunpoint for nearly an hour while an armed robber escaped with about $20,000. Investigators captured two California men, Guadalupe Flores and Gene Austell, charged with armed robbery. both are held on $25,000 bonds in Rankin. Police recovered several thousand dollars and a briefcase used by a bank examiner.

At the 40th Houston Livestock Show, West Texas youths won prime honors. A Plainview lamb owned by Lucretia Gregg sold for 6600 dollars in the junior division. The House Ethics Committee voted unanimously to study whether Rep. John Dowdy of Texas should retain full voting status after his bribery and perjury conviction. Dowdy pledged cooperation and documents as the panel, led by Rep. Melvin Price, said the probe will review precedents and constitutional aspects.
The Texas stock fraud case centers on Mutscher and Frank Sharp with Sharp testifying he met Speaker Gus Mutscher in 1967 and they became close allies. Sharp described frequent visits and talks on banking legislation as the bribery trial continues into its first day with McGinty Shannon and others alleged to push two pro Sharp bills in 1969.
The defense argues part of Sharp testimony should be stricken after he contradicted his motive for backing banking legislation. Sharp will resume testimony after detailing a Houston meeting with Mutscher that prosecutors say implied a bribery conspiracy.

In Lubbock two stores were robbed within hours. At Hi Nabor Drive In Grocery No 5 the clerk Dennis Kelley handed roughly 300 dollars to two robbers after one flashed a long barreled pistol from a sack. Earlier, a bearded man demanded about 100 dollars from Kress & Co with a gun hidden in a sack.
