A widely known Olton area farmer, Fred L. Bass Sr., 59, died in a pickup truck car crash at a rural intersection northeast of Olton. Four members of the Johnson family, E. W. Johnson of Rt. 4 Orton and his children Cynthia 7 and Stevie 5, were injured in the Saturday afternoon crash.

Two gunmen face kidnapping and armed robbery charges after holding Gerald Nunley his wife and three children at gunpoint in Hereford. Lora Lee Scott and her husband Frank were sentenced in Houston federal court for driving a stolen 1962 convertible from Jonesboro Arkansas to Texas.
