A 90 year old cowboy from Ringgold near Wichita Falls watched Cleopatra in Dallas and quipped he has not missed a thing by not seeing movies before. Uncle Ike Stout, a horse trader, enjoyed the premiere as officials noted his unique view on modern film style.

Former pilot testifies in Estes related civil trial

A Pecos farmer Thomas Bell facing a 47199 debt acknowledged signing contracts and a financial statement believed false. A former Estes pilot, Alton Hartman, testified that Estes and Kuykendall Investment Co. discussed financing for non existent ammonia banks. Hartman identified Roger Kuykendall as the second man present. The flight log allegedly verifying the 1960 trip was claimed burned by Hartman’s wife. The trial continued with Kuykendall’s potential sworn testimony expected.

Lanham Named Acting City Manager Here

Lanham 36, assistant city manager since 1958, was named acting city manager by the Lubbock City Commission while a search is conducted. Mayor Strong said Lanham would serve with a slight salary increase and will assume duties in Abilene Monday after Clifton’s last day. Lanham is Tech public administration graduate with UT master’s degree and previously led Tulsa city government before returning to Lubbock.

Clements Guilty in Fake Mortgage Scheme

R E Clements was found guilty of using a fictitious mortgage to sell his ammonia tank company to three Estes associates and was sentenced to two years in prison. The verdict came after five hours of deliberation with no immediate appeal requests.

Kennedy Delights Irish Crowd On Whirlwind Tour

President Kennedy wowed Wexford County crowds during a rapid visit to New Ross Dunganstown and Wexford calling himself Cousin Jack. He was mobbed at De Valera’s garden party and by teenage girls as Secret Service fought to shield him. He kissed his third cousin Mary Ryan at Dunganstown before a 40 minute stop.

Odessa coed named Miss VFW at 43rd convention

About 1,500 delegates attended the opening day of the 43rd annual Department VFW convention in Lubbock. Miss Jackie Wallace, 19, Odessa Permian High School graduate, won Miss VFW over four entrants from state districts and received a bouquet and a $50 savings bond.
