Lieutenant Held Guilty and Violent Weekends In City
A string of traffic and other incidents shocks the city. J D Lynch, 38, of Bates Street died at Methodist Hospital after a two car crash on Bates Street. Melvin Webster, 20, of Rotan was injured in the same crash as Lynch’s car. another injured passenger was Henry Lynch, 21. A separate one car crash on Southeast Drive left Weldon Newman in critical condition. Lt Richard Steinke, 27, Milwaukee, was convicted of refusing to join a counter guerrilla unit in Vietnam and faces up to five years. A US general court martial will reconvene today to consider leniency for Steinke. See FATALITY Page 10.
