Texas farmers optimistic as drought gives way to heavy rains
Texas agriculture shows an overall spirit of optimism as rains average 18.13 inches through May, lifting pasture conditions to their best since 1930 and boosting wheat and other crops. Flooding delayed cotton planting in most areas while vegetable and melon yields lag behind 1956, though fruit and grain prospects improve with possible bumper onion and watermelon crops.
