Man Injured In Explosive Gas Barrel Fire Near Canyon

Grady Hazlewood suffered a broken jaw and severe facial injuries with burns after an explosion at a small barn. Mrs Hazlewood said he was burning off top insulation when fumes in a 50 gallon drum ignited. Alton Reeder reported Hazlewood was cutting a drum with a torch when the fire started.

Eisenhower plans nationwide report after Far East tour

President Eisenhower, resting in Hawaii, will likely return to Washington this weekend and issue a nationwide report next week on his Far Eastern tour. A White House spokesman said the Philippines Korea and Formosa visits were completely successful and a telephone conference with Secretary of State Herter followed. The president, after Okinawa, called the trip very satisfactory despite anti American demonstrations and discussed the cancelled Tokyo visit with officials.

Reservist Joins Navy Cruise Despite Age Milestone

Joseph J. McNamara, 76, a Navy reservist, was called to active duty and donned chief petty officer insignia. He began a 60 day assignment in the 1st Naval District after working as a Boston Shipyard civil service clerk, marking his fourth service term in about six decades. Loyd Croslin longtime Lubbock County resident and former district attorney died in Methodist Hospital at 1 am after a heart attack. He suffered a severe attack at his home Tuesday night and was driven to the hospital by his wife Frances. Croslin 35 years a resident served two terms as district attorney from 1947 to 1950 and later formed a private law firm with E G Pharr.
