Nixon drums up support for revenue sharing sales pitch
President Nixon met with news executives in Rochester to push Congress passing revenue sharing welfare reform and government reorganization bills. He framed the tax protests as a taxpayers revolt aimed at skyrocketing property taxes and pledged a 30 percent potential relief from federal revenue sharing. He cautioned against false euphoria on foreign policy while rallying crowds and noting a multiagency effort to curb drug trafficking.

Ponnamperuma reports identical amino acid and pyrimidine patterns in the 1969 Murchison meteorite and the Murray meteorite from 21 years earlier. He suggests the shared chemistry may reflect a basic phase in the universe’s organic molecule formation and cites NASA Ames as the paper source.

Marines Face Heavy Fighting Near Saigon and Da Nang
Reports from Saigon indicate at least 13 Marines killed and 15 wounded with final tallies pending while Da Nang sources say heavy fighting eased Friday morning though sporadic mortar fire continued. Ba He Mountain lies two miles from Fire Base Sarge where rockets and mortars have rained for a month. Outposts Sarg and two nearby sites were shelled again Thursday with light casualties reported. Farther south an American was killed and more than six wounded in two attacks 43 miles east of Saigon. The U S Command attributed most casualties to entrenched enemy forces opening fire on a U S air cavalry patrol. Nearby Saigon, a security sweep uncovered an enemy stockpile nine miles southeast of the capital including 15 Soviet rifles, 20 grenades, 20 blasting caps and 1 500 rounds of ammunition.
