Panhandle Storms Drench Lubbock With Hail and Rain
Thunderstorms swept the Panhandle South Plains area Saturday dumping pea size hail and heavy rain. Lubbock saw the heaviest activity after 10:30 p.m. with streets flooded and high water at N Quaker and Loop 289. Rain totals near downtown and at the airport ranged from a quarter to a quarter inch, with pea size hail reported in several neighborhoods. See STORMS Page 14.

In Sydney AP reports the last of nine children born to Mrs Leonard Brodrick died Saturday night at a hospital. The 29 year old former nurse had given birth to the world’s first recorded nonuplets last Sunday. seven of them survived at birth though many died in the following days. The newborns were 12 weeks premature. The latest death was Richard, a boy likely weighing about 12 ounces.
