Pair Nabbed After High Speed Chase and Vandalism

Two youths from DeSoto in Dallas County, Stephen L Meeks 17 and Larry W Brewer 20, were arrested after a late Saturday chase and traffic crash in the 2900 block of Avenue U. Meeks was cited 27 times for traffic violations and both face Corporation Court charges of malicious destruction of property under 5 dollars for a smashed headlight.

Spade Ranch Receives Historic Medal Of Honor

The Spade Ranch headquarters on the South Plains earned a historic medal at a Sunday ceremony 114 miles southeast of here. Judge E A Bills presented the Swedish steel and aluminum medal to Mr and Mrs Jack Stubblefield, the ranch house now remodeled as their farm home. About 75 attendees included former cowboys and the original foreman and family members.

Lubbock Man Held After New Deal Shooting Death

AGUSTINE ROMERO a 48 year old New Deal resident, was shot four times during an early Sunday argument at Raul Pena's New Deal residence. David Soto signed a statement after deputies arrested him two blocks away and recovered a .38 revolver. Graveside rites were slated for 4:30 p.m. at City of Lubbock Cemetery. Two others were stabbed at the Casino Cafe in a separate early morning incident.

Waco Jail Escapee Surrenders After Shootout

Ernest Rose Jr., 40, an ACO A convicted robber who wounded Deputy Jackson during a daylight jailbreak at McLennan County jail, shot himself when he heard he had killed the deputy. Rangers found him critically wounded near Waco after a tip from a friend. Deputy Jackson was wounded in the hand and shoulder but not believed to be fatally harmed. Rose’s wife, who helped plan the break, was arrested.

Missing Lake Youth Sparks Search Near Slaton

A 19 year old Slaton youth, Jimmy Ayers, reportedly jumped from a boat on Buffalo Lake Sunday night and vanished. Rescue teams from the fire department and the Lubbock Pant Club searched as rain and wind hampered operations. the lake depth at the spot was about 80 feet.

Flash Flood Claims Boy In Utah And Wider Rocky Mountain Flooding

A weekend flood spree across five Rocky Mountain states left one boy dead and damage over 1 million dollars. In Utah a 16 foot wall of water swept a campsite in the Uinta National Forest killing a 4 year old, while three other boys were swept away but escaped. Denver-area damage from hail and rain was projected above 1 million with cleanup efforts beginning. Authorities said two inches of rain fell in two hours in parts of Montana and Idaho, and floods triggered by a cloudburst damaged roads and bridges. A Salt Lake City family riding the North Fork of the Duchesne River was struck by debris as a wall of water carried away vehicles and bedding.
