The dollar rose in London, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt as expectations of U.S. anti inflation moves and Britain’s worsening trade deficit spurred buying. The pound fell to around $2.57, gold eased from record levels, and UK shares slid as investors priced in the looming Nixon speech.
