Violence and Media Open To Federal Study Aid
The Federal Communications Commission offered to assist the National Commission on the Cause and Prevention of Violence in studying links between mass media and violent behavior. The FCC noted concerns about violence in television and other media and the need for possible connections, while citing licensing limits and freedom of program choice. Rep. Casey cited a gun violence broadcast as showing media influence and urged Congress to act. ABC defended its editorials and a reporter’s comments on gun control.
