Cambridge Mass July 7 astronomers cheerfully report Icarus the asteroid half a mile across will miss Earth safely at about 4 PM CDT. Dr Brian See says miss distance estimates of nearly 3.95 million miles are accurate within a few hundred miles.
The governing boards and the Committee of Heads of 12 senior colleges in Texas recommend the first tuition increase since 1957 to cover a 46 million dollar gap. Undergrad in state tuition would rise from 50 to about 100 dollars per semester, with details on graduate and out of state rates to follow.

William Henry Nelson a 24 year old Philadelphia native who defected to Cuba in 1963 floated back to the United States on an inner tube raft with two other Cuban refugees. He was rescued in the Florida straits and brought to Key West for FBI and immigration questioning. Nelson faces interstate transportation of stolen property charges and is jailed on $5 000 bond.
