Tuition Hike Sought by Texas Senior Colleges

The governing boards and the Committee of Heads of 12 senior colleges in Texas recommend the first tuition increase since 1957 to cover a 46 million dollar gap. Undergrad in state tuition would rise from 50 to about 100 dollars per semester, with details on graduate and out of state rates to follow.

Dynamite Headache Cure Backfires in Rhodesia

UPI reports a man in Umtali Rhodesia attempted to cure a headache by hammering a stick of dynamite into his head. The blast blew off his left hand and shattered his right arm and abdomen according to hospital attendants.

Johnson pledges U S push to end nuclear arms race

President Johnson appeared at the United Nations General Assembly and pledged to press all efforts to end the nuclear arms race. He praised the 124-nation vote endorsing the U S Soviet draft treaty to ban spread of nuclear weapons and called the step a landmark in disarmament.

Plane crash in Calcutta kills six of Pan Am jet crew

A Pan American Airways Boeing 797 incoming to Dum Dum airport in heavy rain crashed and burned early today. Six of the 63 aboard were reported dead and at least two survivors were in serious condition as emergency crews battled the flames. Pan Am officials worked to confirm passenger names and casualty details.

Defector Nelson Returns From Cuba in Inner Tube

William Henry Nelson a 24 year old Philadelphia native who defected to Cuba in 1963 floated back to the United States on an inner tube raft with two other Cuban refugees. He was rescued in the Florida straits and brought to Key West for FBI and immigration questioning. Nelson faces interstate transportation of stolen property charges and is jailed on $5 000 bond.

Thunderstorms Bring Downpours to Panhandle and South Plains

A line of severe storms with tornado warnings moved through nine Panhandle counties and parts of Lubbock Floyd and Hale counties. Planning panel rejects zone bid near AM medical district
