Joint Congressional Committee Eyes Thresher Inquiry
The Senate House Atomic Energy Committee may open its own probe into the Thresher disaster after the Navy court of inquiry completes. Sources say members want a broader survey of nuclear submarine reactor construction and non nuclear sections. Chairman Pastore scheduled a staff briefing to decide on extending the inquiry. The Navy records have been sent to the Atlantic Fleet commander who will forward them to the Navy Department. The committee seeks a copy of the findings when received by the secretary of the Navy.

Public Health Service Reorganization Proposal Outlined
Surgeon General Terry urged Congress to authorize reorganization of the Public Health Service, saying current plans from 1913 are outdated. He testified that rapid changes over decades require flexibility and that the secretary of HEW would approve future structural changes, with Congress retaining initial authorization.
