Five Bills Pass and Three Die In Long Water Plan
The legislature advances a long range water program with an eleven million dollar bond plan to aid districts building dams and reservoirs. A two year study committee remains, but funding is trimmed to ten thousand dollars by a conference panel. The package empowers the Railroad Commission to regulate oil drilling for water safety, requires district registration, authorizes hearings, and permits water use reporting. A Trinity River Authority measure survives in a last minute compromise across 17 counties.
