Measure Goes To Nixon

The House passed a 21.3 billion education bill with a major antibusing provision. It would halt for 18 months any federal court desegregation order during appeals. The bill funds colleges and schools yet actual appropriations depend on separate legislation. Secretary Richardson called it a landmark but criticised the busing provisions. Lamesan Savoring National Bee Win

Chilean Tremors Shake Central Chile Cities

Strong earth tremors struck central Chile rattling Santiago buildings and causing panic. The epicenter was near Iiapel, a farm town about 165 miles north of Santiago. The tremor measured 7 on the Richter scale and struck at 2 54 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Light Rains Dampen West Texas Area

Showers and thundershowers were expected to develop across much of the state including Lubbock and the South Plains in the afternoon after a day of cloudy skies and light sprinkles. In the Lubbock area only Anton recorded measurable rain about 2:30 p.m. with 0.05 inches. Shallowater had a trace, and several towns reported light sprinkles.

FAA grants nearly two million for Lubbock airport expansion

The Federal Aviation Administration approves a 1 961 532 grant to fund land purchases and roadways south of the new terminal site, apron and taxiways, lighting, and a northerly runway extension. City aviation director Marvin Coffee says the grant appears to meet the request as the new terminal opens in mid 1975.
