They wed in a county courthouse and live in Cat Hollow near Gladys. The arrangement drew stares in a rugged eastern Kentucky district.
The House Ways and Means committee says the federal tax code will be overhauled for the first time in a generation with action planned by Congress next year. U S authorities warn that peace with Austria may be abandoned to thwart Communist advance. Vienna reports say Ernst Fischer pushes a Soviet aligned line, threatening a Western oriented government. Austria remains occupied by four nations with a potential shift toward Moscow influence.

He spoke at a memorial service for the 35th Division in Anasas City after laying a wreath at a St Lo cemetery replica, drawing cheers from veterans of Battery D of the 129th Field Artillery. Vanna Lea Williams a 16 year old girl daughter of Mrs Myrtle Williams suffered a leg fracture a chip off the ulna of the left arm and other injuries when struck by an automobile about 850 p m Saturday while crossing Twenty fifth street at the Washington avenue intersection She was admitted to West Texas hospital and was taken there by a Plains Funeral home ambulance Investigators say she entered the street from behind a westbound city bus as it started moving The car driven by John Charles Tosh a 16 year old of 3502 Thirty second Street going east on Twenty fifth struck her Police Patrolmen George Wilkes Hugh Hayes and Bob Adkinson investigated
The Rio Grande bombing range near Biggs Field, El Paso will host a large scale display of white phosphorus and high explosive bombing on June 11 conducted by B-29s. Three hundred West Point upper classmen will observe from elevated ground about one mile from the target.
Brig. Gen. Roger Ramey calls Convair B 36 the immediately decisive weapon for war. Public showing for 200 reporters at the Convair plant revealed a nearly mile long assembly line and the XB 36 staged a 15 minute flight bringing total flight hours to 31.
A massive flood and a wide tornado struck parts of Iowa Illinois Missouri Ohio Pennsylvania and surrounding states causing at least 18 deaths and thousands homeless. Ottumwa Iowa suffered severe damage with major plants flooded and upper stories in homes inundated. The Des Moines river valley left 16000 homeless and Mississippi flood warnings spread from Keokuk to Hannibal.
In Massillon Ohio a killer entered the fourth floor pediatrics nursery of the city hospital during a thunderstorm and killed two baby girls aged eight and nine weeks. The deaths are attributed to skull fractures with no weapons found. Chief Stanley W. Switter said a guard is posted at the hospital. The victims are Diane Brand and Rosemary Morton.
