Nepal to build ropeway linking Kathmandu valley
The Nepal government and United States fund a new 25 ton per hour ropeway from Kathmandu to Hitaura to overcome isolation in the Himalayas. The 29 mile route will replace the aging, limited 6 ton per day British line, with an October 1962 completion target. Riblet workers began arriving in 1959 and logistics remain the main challenge.
