Settlement Reached Over Spanking of 13-Year-Old Choir Boy

A 13-year-old choir boy actor received a 6500 settlement for being spanked 65 times, one for each minute late for Mitchell Boys choir practice. Superior court approved the agreement for John Tommy Smith. Defendants include the Mitchell Boys Choir head Robert Mitchell and former associate director Vincent Morton. James Smith, the boy’s father, sought damages in Garden Grove, California.

Marines clash with Viet Cong in Da Nang area battles

US Marines suffer two dead and 19 wounded as heavy fighting unfolds around Da Nang Air Base and Phu Bai. About 1000 Marines countered Viet Cong forces, with jets and a turncoat guide aiding strikes that reportedly killed 60 guerrillas. Additional firefights occur at a Marine outpost near Da Nang.

Manhunt Under Way After Nebraskan Bank Slaying

A bank president and two cashiers were shot dead in Big Springs Nebraska during a bank holdup. A fourth victim was wounded as the gunman escaped after exchanging greetings with a nearby farmer. Hundreds of lawmen, including FBI agents, searched the region across Nebraska Colorado and Wyoming with roadblocks and house to house inquiries. The town of 550 saw a large-scale chase as authorities pursued the armed suspect.

Hale Center cleanup continues after destructive tornado
