Helen Keller Dies at 81 After Long Illness
Helen Keller who was blind and deaf from infancy died at her Arcane Ridge home in Easton Conn at age 81. Her cremation will follow private services with a memorial at the National Cathedral Washington later this week. Keller, who wrote The Story of My Life and traveled globally for the blind, is survived by a brother and sister and lived much of her life with teacher Anne Sullivan Macy until 1936.

Three people were hospitalized after separate automobile crashes in the Lubbock area late Saturday night and Sunday. Doris Joiner Scott, 29, was in fair condition after a Sunday morning one vehicle mishap near Shallowater. Richard Charles Thorton, 23, is in satisfactory condition after his car hit the Avenue A underpass in Lubbock early Sunday. Doris Trevino, 23, and her husband Tony, 25, were treated and released after an accident at Third Street and Avenue H just before midnight Saturday.
