In Lubbock County Democratic runoff Blanchard defeats Sheriff Harrist 14 311 to 12 431 as turnout peaks. Preston Smith earns strong county support with 20 618 votes while Don Yarborough trails. total ballots cast reach 27 078 with mixed results.

Winds and damage from wild weather hit Lockney area

Frigid wild winds and light showers swept the South Plains on Friday night causing widespread damage. In Hale County Edmonson residents reported half the homes with broken windows and interior flood damage from downpours and hail as cleanup continued. County results show Bolen defeating Parson for justice of the peace in Precinct 1 Place 1 by 7198 to 5808. Joy leads Hazlewood for a seat on the 7th Court of Civil Appeals. Local politics note Harris loses county sheriff race while Blanchard prepares for January start.

More than 25 members of the Class of 1928 joined about 298 alumni for a campus reunion at Texas Tech. The day included coffee, luncheon with Dr and Mrs Grover E Murray, an afternoon reception, and a dinner followed by recognition at the 1968 commencement in Lubbock, reflecting the school’s growth and memories.

Texas Tech awarded 1,790 degrees in a Saturday commencement at Municipal Coliseum. Youth Killed in Head On Collision near Carlisle

A two car head on crash about 11:30 pm Saturday on State 16 west of the city limits killed 18 year old Paul Garcia Lara Jr of Carlisle who was alone in his car. The other driver is unknown and details were unavailable. Highway Patrolman Ted Court identified the victim from papers.

THREE JAILED HERE Lubbock Dallas Men Nabbed In Drug Raid

Police report three men, including a Dallas resident, were arrested in a narcotics raid on a South Suburb residence. Investigators recovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and assorted documents. Two Lubbock suspects faced charges while others were not charged.

Joy Upsets for Judge Post as South Plains Turns Out

In the South Plains, voters backed Plainview Judge James A. Joy for an associate judge seat on the 7th District Court of Civil Appeals. Preston Smith carried the regional vote, while Don Yarborough won in Howard and Castro counties. Area turnout reached 90,837 with Smith at 65,363 and Yarborough at 24,956.
