Hijacked DC-8 Narrowly Redirected From Midland Route

A Continental DC-8 en route to Lubbock was hijacked early today and diverted from Midland to Mobile or Houston. About 1 passenger bound for Lubbock and others in Midland or Amarillo were allowed to disembark. the hijacker, a 26 year old Negro man, reportedly aimed for Cuba and held a knife to the pilot’s throat. The plane planned refueling at Mobile, Houston or New Orleans as police in Midland tried to contact the hijacker with no immediate success.
