Survivor recounts harrowing capsizing near Isles of Shoals
Harold W. Jones, 40, the sole survivor, described clinging to the overturned 18 foot runabout while holding to Albert Eglintine, 71, who died in his arms as the party’s fishing trip ended in tragedy off Rye Harbor. Albert Jr. of Schenectady owned the boat. Walter Eglintine, 38, of Pittsfield, died, leaving a wife and two daughters and a son. Mabel Lester, 62, of Schenectady, a friend of the elder Eglintine, also perished. Jones was found in good condition at Portsmouth Hospital after exposure. The party had sailed Wednesday morning for the Isles of Shoals, overdue by 6 p.m. and later located by Hampton Beach lifeboat crew. Walter Eglintine’s body was recovered. the elder Eglintine had retired.
