Hearings To Begin Today On Test Ban Pact

Moscow talks between American British and Soviet negotiators stretched into a long session as they pursue a nuclear test ban treaty. A key sticking point is a proposed NATO Soviet nonaggression pact. Heat記 Soars Over State Amid Heat Wave Across Texas

Texas endured a brutal heat wave with readings above 100 in many areas. Seymour led with an unofficial 106 degrees while Fort Worth logged 105 and other cities posted 101 to 104. Lubbock reported 98 as officials warned of more of the same with little chance of rain through midweek.

Four Mishaps Leave 13 Hurt In City Monday

Thirteen people, including five youths, were injured in four traffic incidents in and near the city Monday. The driver Burl Bell and four passengers in a car that struck a utility pole during a high speed chase were listed in satisfactory condition at Methodist Hospital. The crash began after a drag race near Ave Q and 6th St and reached speeds around 100 mph before the vehicle left the road. The occupants include Barbara Diane Edens, Sue Haynes, Sandra Ann Griffin, and Jacob Paul Everhart, all from nearby areas.

Brazen Hobbs Supermarket Hold-Up Ends With Gunshot

A masked gunman robbed a Hobbs Safeway store after forcing three employees to the back and binding them. He took at least 2500 in cash and undetermined checks, shot Chester Pierce who was treated and released, while warning he would target families if identified. The incident occurred around 7 pm in the 200 block of FE Dunham.
