Spencer Tracy Hospitalized After Lung Congestion Attack

Veteran actor Spencer Tracy, 63, was stricken with a congestive lung condition on a Malibu outing with Katharine Hepburn. He was rushed by ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital as Hepburn summoned a resuscitator, with doctors saying his condition was serious but improving.

Connally denounces Rockefeller bid on civil rights at governors meet

Gov. John Connally attacked what he called politically inspired moves by Gov. Nelson Rockefeller to push a civil rights resolution at the national governors conference. He argued the issue belongs outside politics and should be solved through education and economic opportunity rather than at the conference.

Priest Swims Seven Miles To Save Girl In Lake Pontchartrain

A 45-year-old priest, Rev. John Savageau of Our Lady of Guadalupe, swam over seven miles in Lake Pontchartrain towing a 14-year-old girl to shore after a boat capsized. Another priest, Rev. Anatole Baillargeon, and Christy Martine, 3, were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter after more than 10 hours in the water. The boat's passengers included Mrs. Jean Martine and Lanne Fagout, a babysitter.

Feud Triggers Fatal Shootout in Muleshoe Downtown

Pedro Mendoza, about 32, was killed and Brigidia Salinas 13 critically wounded when Ambrosio Rojas 52 fired a 38 revolver during a long standing feud between the Mendoza and Rojas families in downtown Muleshoe. Bystanders Harvey Salinas Marcus Huertas and Lavinio Aguirre were lightly wounded as police said Rojas emptied the six shots before surrendering.

Ships Tangle In Atlantic Off Cape Henry

The Norwegian tanker Honnor and the American freighter San Juan collided 200 miles east of Cape Henry. Both vessels were badly damaged with one crewman injured and 24 Honnor crewmen taken aboard by the San Juan. Coast Guard reports indicated Honnor showed a list but remained afloat.

Rosson Drowned While Skin Diving at Bull Lake

Twenty year old Raymond Eugene Rosson of 1101 E Quinn St Lubbock drowned Sunday afternoon at Bull Lake eight miles west of Littlefield. He was pronounced dead at 2 45 pm after rescue attempts by his father Dris Rosson a Littlefield doctor and by the Littlefield fire department. His companion Mike ONeal said they swam toward a boat in eight feet of water about 50 yards from shore while using skin diving gear.
