In Pasadena California NASA Mars probe Mariner 4 released its first close up image showing a vast desert plain with low hills. Dr R B Leighton of Caltech said features appear new and dark smudges in the frame suggest uncharted markings while the craft captured shots from 10 500 miles during its sweep.

Stevenson Rites Set Today At Washington Cathedral
Stevenson rites are set for today with the former United States statesman lying in state in the Capitol and casket transferred to the National Cathedral for services.
