City hit-and-run injures child and kills man on Saturday

A 32-year-old Lubbock man, Billy Glen McDonald, died after a Corvair overturned on Thalou Road. A 3-year-old, Alberto Marmalejo, was struck by a hit-and-run sedan near Sth St and Ave C with a fractured arm and head lacerations but was not hospitalized. Officers sought a blue and white sedan with two youths seen near the scene. The day marked the city’s 12th traffic death this year and the second in a week, with nine others injured.

Youth soap box derby set after inspection clears 102 entrants

One hundred two youths from South Plains were cleared by the Lubbock Soap Box Derby Inspection Committee for the 6 30 p m race Monday at 19th Street and Texas Avenue. Cars ranged from small to large and were examined closely. many passed after adjustments.
