City OKs Plan In Ambulance Crisis

UBBOCK ambulance crisis may be solved by issuing a no subsidy franchise to an independent operator. The City Council expresses no interest in subsidizing and will study a franchising ordinance draft for July 28 action. Six firms showed interest, but some walked away when subsidies were ruled out. If no suitable operator is found the city may run ambulances itself at about $100000 yearly.

Madman Kills Eight Nurses in Chicago Dormitory Attack

A young intruder killed eight nursing trainees and attacked a ninth in a Chicago residential dormitory. The survivor, Corazon Amurao, 23, escaped and sought help as police questioned suspects. The late victims lived at South Chicago Community Hospital housing, with authorities unsure how the killer entered. A second brief item notes two earthquakes rattling downtown Tokyo with no damage or injuries.

Notable mass murder cases in history recounted by nurse

A nurse recalls notorious killings from Camden New Jersey in 1949 to Boston and London. Howard Unruh killed 13 on the street before insanity verdicts. Boston strangler victims reported between 1962 and 1964. Jack the Ripper haunted Whitechapel in 1888 with at least seven victims.

Two Die In Utah Ski Lift Accident At Timp Haven

A ski lift collapse at Timp Haven south of Salt Lake City killed two women and seriously injured at least six girls from a Mormon Church sponsored girls summer camp. Victims’ names were withheld. The girls fell about 60 feet as chairs toppled after getting hung on pulleys.

Antitrust Chief Flies With Humphrey On Anheuser-Busch Plane

Justice Department antitrust chief Donald F. Turner says he joined Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey on an All-Star trip to St Louis aboard an Anheuser-Busch plane. GOP lawmakers questioned possible influence from brewery executives who donated to the Democratic Party. Turner denied knowledge of the plane’s ownership and noted the suit against Anheuser-Busch had been dropped earlier. The report also notes a separate $202,738 HEW grant for Cisco Junior College announced by Senator Tower.
