Riot Police Surround Newlyweds in Australia
In Sydney a former inmate staged a shotgun wedding to his teenage lover inside a cottage with their week-old baby, while over 40 riot officers surrounded the scene. Wally Mellish, 25, held the girl and infant hostage since Monday, aiming to surrender after the ceremony. Police brokered the wedding as the price for his surrender, but Mellish later reneged on the bargain and remained inside as a tense standoff continued.
