Armed passenger forces Northwest jet to Havana

A pistol wielding passenger hijacked Northwest Airlines Flight 714 from Minneapolis to Miami via Chicago with 92 aboard and forced the Boeing 727 to land in Havana Cuba. FAA officials say the hijacker directed non stop clearance to Miami then Havana, with all passengers and crew later to be allowed to return to the United States.

U S Airliner Bound for Vietnam Is Forcibly Landed by Soviets

A Seaboard World Airlines DC8 carrying 212 troops and 17 crew was forced to land on Inturup Island in the Kurile chain after allegedly straying into Soviet air space en route Seattle Yokota Japan. The plane and its 229 aboard were not harmed and a State Department spokesman said the case is under investigation with no assurances of release. The United States pressed Moscow for the plane's return through Ambassador Llewellyn Thompson and Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin while officials expect a safe resolution.

Car Mishap Kills Child in Lubbock

A 5-year-old boy, Carlos Castro, died after being struck by a car on 4th Street near Ave T in Lubbock. The accident occurred about 4 15 p m and the child died at Methodist Hospital around 4 30 p m. Witnesses said he darted into the street from the north sidewalk as a car driven by Elizabeth Hunter Moss approached. The boy's brother had crossed moments earlier.

Marines Crush North Vietnamese Near Khe Sanh
