Monroney predicts Demo win in Texas election rally

U S Senator Mike Monroney told 300 to 400 Democrats at a Jefferson Day dinner in Lubbock that IEXAS will control both houses after the 1934 elections. He praised Sam Rayburn as Speaker and Lyndon Johnson as Majority Leader and criticized Republicans on farm prices and foreign policy while urging Democratic success in 1954.

Negro Confesses Slaying Woman in Dallas Case

A 19 year old man signed a confession stating he killed Mrs. H. C. Parker in September in Dallas. Police captain Fritz said the suspect matches a description from the night of the attack and rape he had not yet discussed. Investigation continues with charges not yet filed.

Parties Open Bid For Votes Rally Planned As Parties Gear Up For 1954 Campaign

The major parties announced simultaneous congressional warm ups with a big GOP rally next week and a Democratic speaking push in Western states. The Democratic National Committee named 55 loyal Texans to a state advisory council to raise funds and advise on party problems. A three day Republican rally starts Feb 4 with national committee and auxiliary sessions, capped by a Lincoln Day box supper featuring Eisenhower Nixon Cabinet members and party leaders. In Moscow, the Soviet Union said Russian industry met its 1953 goals at 101 percent amid criticism of several industries for not meeting plans.

Earth satellite could blaze path to world control says Pryor

Pan American executive vice president Samuel F. Pryor warned at the Women’s Forum on National Security that a man made Earth satellite could be used to reduce nations to ashes. He cited Nazi German research and Soviet access to scientists, describing a 600 mile orbit mirror satellite with adjustable focal length for concentrated heat or wide area illumination. He noted peaceful uses but warned of dangers.

Oil Well Blowout Sends Flames 90 Feet High

Eight oilfield workers from Odessa were injured when an oil well 10 miles southwest of Andrews blew out, spewing flames up to 90 feet. The Parker Drilling Co rig suffered about 100000 in damage, with fire crews guarding the site as mud was readied to smother the blaze.

Victoria January 30 The State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee announces 1954 upland cotton acreage will be allotted directly to individual farmers. Each farmer’s 1954 allotment equals 65 percent of his average planted acreage over the last three years, replacing county apportionment.
