Hooded bandits linked to Brownfield slaying exonerated
Three Reese AFB airmen known as the hooded bandits face charges in a spate of South Plains robberies. Investigators say two admitted robbers signed statements admitting the Denison supermarket holdup two hours before the Brownfield incident. A fourth airman passed a lie detector test about the Brownfield murder, while his estranged wife gave birth to a son. An autopsy and further tests are pending.

Motorist Saves Tot From Burning Lubbock House
A passing driver rescued a two year old Negro boy from a fire on Acuff Rd in Lubbock. The child Johnnie Ray Brown suffered second and third degree burns over 40 percent and was to be moved to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston for better care. His brother Joe Lee Brown helped carry the infant out. another brother Alex escaped injury. The rescuer was John P. Barnes. Police said Barnes found the family outside the burning home and alerted authorities.
