NO SATURDAY SHUTDOWN IMPROVED POSTAL SERVICES

Johnson Saturday approved an extension of weekend postal services to 15,000 cities. Postmaster General Lawrence P. O'Brien was ordered to restore postal money orders and other services on Saturdays and some Sundays. Six day parcel post delivery in cities over 3,000 people will be re established, reversing cuts from May 1964. Restoration aims to cost about 15 million dollars yearly, with plans for broader efficiency improvements.
